August 1, 1999 to July 31, 2000

 

FALL FESTIVAL, NOVEMBER 1999

HERITAGE SQUARE PARK, PHOENIX, ARIZONA

In November 1999 the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 attended the first annual Fall Festival held at Heritage Square Park in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.  The Camp set up a display which highlighted the contributions made by Confederate veterans to Arizona's history and development, and distributed literature about Arizona's Confederate Heritage, Black Confederate Heritage, and Hispanic Confederate Heritage.  The Camp also did some recruiting and fund-raising at the event.

Our Camp was represented at the event by Commander Robert Perkins, who manned the display throughout the day. 

 

 

JEFFERSON DAVIS MEMORIAL SERVICE, DECEMBER 5, 1999

JEFFERSON DAVIS MONUMENT, U.S. HIGHWAY 60, EAST OF APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA

On December 5, 1999 the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 held its sixth annual memorial service in honor of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.  The ceremony was held at the Jefferson Davis Highway Marker, east of Apache Junction on U.S. Highway 60.  The Camp was joined by members of the Thunderbird Chapter (Phoenix, Arizona) and the John R. Baylor Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy.

LEE AND JACKSON BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION, 22 JANUARY 2000

BEEF EATER'S RESTAURANT, PHOENIX, ARIZONA

On Saturday, January 22, 2000 the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525, in cooperation with the Arizona Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy, held a well-attended (40 people in attendance) celebration in honor of the birthdays of the great Southern heroes, General Robert E. Lee and General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson.  Three of five Arizona S.C.V. Camps were represented, as well as all four Arizona U.D.C. Chapters, Camp Picacho Peak of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and the Arizona Civil War Council (the local Phoenix reenactor's organization).  

 

WINNER OF THE TRIVIA CONTEST

The Camp's annual Lee and Jackson Trivia Contest was a big success.  Compatriot Ronald Fox of the Captain Granville Henderson Oury Camp 1708 (SCV)  won this year's contest.   He is pictured above (at left) with his prize, a Franklin Mint Limited Edition Stonewall Jackson Pocket Knife.  All had a great time!

 

 

PICACHO REENACTMENT, 11-12 MARCH 2000

Over the weekend of 11-12 March 2000, the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 attended the annual Civil War in the Southwest Weekend of battle reenactments and living history encampments at Picacho Peak State Park, about 40 miles north of Tucson, Arizona.   The Camp distributed S.C.V. recruitment literature, informational literature about Arizona Confederate history, Black Confederate Heritage and Hispanic Confederate Heritage, and sold raffle tickets.   Camp Commander Robert Perkins also participated in the battle reenactments as a member of the 5th Texas Infantry.  All in all it was a very successful weekend for the Camp!
