JEFFERSON DAVIS MEMORIAL SERVICE, DECEMBER 1996
JEFFERSON DAVIS MONUMENT, U.S. HIGHWAY 60 (EAST OF APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA)
On December 7, 1996 the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 held its third annual Jefferson Davis Memorial service at the Jefferson Davis Monument located on U.S. Highway 60. This year the event was well attended, with representatives from 3 Arizona S.C.V. Camps (Camp 1525, the Captain Granville Henderson Oury Camp 1708, and the Captain Robert Rodes Nelson Camp 1647) in attendance. Also, for the first year, we had a cannon on hand to perform a salute in honour of President Davis (provided by Camp 1525 member Dan Huskisson). After the ceremony, Camp 1525 went with members of Camp 1708 to the old Adamsville Cemetery near Florence, Arizona, where a ceremony in honour of Camp 1708's namesake, Captain Granville Henderson Oury, was held.

GRAVE OF GRANVILLE OURY
Shown is the grave of Granville H. Oury, who was...in addition to serving as Captain of Company B, Herbert's Battalion of Arizona Cavalry...Arizona's first delegate to the Confederate States Congress, and after the war served as Arizona's delegate to the United States Congress, and was the only man in history to hold the distinction of having served as Territorial Delegate to both the Confederate and U.S. Congresses. As can be seen, his original grave marker has been virtually obliterated by vandals who used it for target practice over the years. A new Confederate gravestone, provided by the Veterans Administration, was set up at the site by the United Daughters of the Confederacy during the 1970s, and is still in good condition. Photo taken during the Captain Granville Henderson Oury Memorial Service held by Camp 1708 after the conclusion of the Jefferson Davis Memorial Service on December 7, 1996.

HERITAGE SQUARE PARK, PHOENIX, ARIZONA
In December 1996, the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 attended the first annual Victorian Holiday Celebration held at historic Heritage Square Park in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The display was visited by many people over the weekend, and was a big success.

ARIZONA DIVISION CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE
DRAGOON SPRINGS, ARIZONA, MAY 1997
In May 1997 the Arizona Division, SCV, held its first annual Confederate Memorial Day ceremony at Dragoon Springs, Arizona. The ceremony was held at the site of the graves of four members of Captain Sherod Hunter's Arizona Rangers who were killed in battle with Apaches on 5 May 1862. These men are the only Confederate soldiers to have lost their lives in battle within the bounds of the modern State of Arizona. Despite the remoteness of the location (which is in the desert off Interstate Highway 10, about 18 miles east of Benson, Arizona), the ceremony was well attended with about 30 people there, and was considered a big success. Camp 1525 was represented at the ceremony by Commander Perkins and Lt. Commander Huskisson.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING, JULY 1997
BEEF EATER'S RESTAURANT, PHOENIX, ARIZONA
Each year in July the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 holds its Annual Business Meeting, where reports are made on the progress of Camp Projects over the past year, new officers are elected to serve for the coming year, a Camp Calendar of events is determined for the upcoming year, and Camp Awards are given recognizing members for service to the Camp and its projects. Usually there have been no pictures taken at these meetings, but in 1997 we actually had someone there with a camera to document the proceedings.
PORTER'S PRESENTATION
One highlight of the 1997 Annual Business Meeting was a presentation by Camp Lt. Commander Ed Porter of an authentic Confederate Enfield Rifle which he has in his collection. Compatriot Porter described the research he had done on the rifle, including the inspection marks and maker's marks, which proved it was a Confederate Enfield. Seated to Porter's left is Camp Commander Robert Perkins, and to his right Camp Adjutant Larry Billar.
CAMP AWARDS
Each year the Camp gives out a list of awards recognizing members for their contributions to and work for the Camp during the preceding year. Shown receiving his award (The Judah P. Benjamin Award, recognizing his service as Camp Secretary) from Commander Perkins is Compatriot Dan Huskisson.
ATTENDEES
Attending the 1997 Annual Business Meeting were (left to right) Camp Commander Robert Perkins, Compatriot Tom Tatum, Camp Lt. Commander Ed Porter, Camp Adjutant Larry Billar, Compatriot Herbert Deal, and Camp Secretary Dan Huskisson. Also attending, but not pictured, were Compatriots Eddy Davison and Tony Eppler, as well as Judy Perkins, wife of the Camp Commander.
