CAMP PICNIC, OCTOBER 1993
PICACHO PEAK STATE PARK, PICACHO, ARIZONA
This was the second Camp picnic held at Picacho Peak State Park, and it was a very memorable one indeed...if for no other reason than the weather. While we were picnicking a huge thunderstorm blew in, with high winds, cold rain, and marble sized hail. The wind at times was so high that the rain was being blown in under the roof of the picnic ramada we were in, and by the end of the storm we were all pretty much soaked. But nevertheless the picnic was pretty well attended, and we all had a good time, with lots of good food (Commander Perkins made Southern style Barbecue Pork which was very well received) and good company.
ENJOYING THE PICNIC
This picture was taken before the storm...just good food and good company making for a pleasant afternoon.
THE STORM ARRIVES
Picnickers watch as the marble-sized hail patters on the ground outside our ramada. In a few minutes, huge gusts of wind would be blowing the rain and hail horizontally under the roof of the ramada, soaking the entire gathering.
AFTER THE STORM
A very wet and rather disgruntled group poses for pictures after the storm. Pictured are, seated, left to right...Linda Huskisson, and Mrs. Bill Gooden. Standing, left to right...Robert Oxford, Colour Sergeant of Camp 1525; Compatriot Dan Huskisson; Camp Treasurer John Leonard; Compatriot Tony Eppler; Compatriot Bill Gooden; Compatriot Robert Wilbanks IV, and Camp Commander Robert Perkins.

LEE AND JACKSON DAY, JANUARY 1994
It was in this year that our Camp began to hold annual birthday celebrations in honour of the South's two greatest military leaders, General Robert E. Lee and Lt. General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. This year's celebration was held at the home of Camp Lt. Commander Ed Porter, and was very enjoyable even if sparsely attended. One highlight of the event was the Lemon Cake (served in honour of Lt. General Jackson's well-known passion for said fruit) prepared by Mrs. Porter, wife of our esteemed Lt. Commander. Lt. Commander Porter showed videotaped biographies of the two Confederatee Generals, and also brought out and displayed many of his vast collection of War Between the States relics and memorabilia, which made the meeting very entertaining for all.

PICACHO REENACTMENT, MARCH 1994
PICACHO PEAK STATE PARK, PICACHO, ARIZONA
For the second year, the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 had a recruitment and information table at the annual Civil War in the Southwest reenactment sponsored by Picacho Peak State Park. That year the Camp made an ill-fated attempt to form its own reenactment unit, the Second Arizona Cavalry.
COMMANDER PERKINS WITH THE SECOND ARIZONA'S FLAG
Pictured is Commander Robert Perkins, portraying a Second Lieutenant of the Second Arizona Cavalry, standing next to the flag of the Second Arizona, which was a Richard Taylor Pattern flag (Southern Cross with reversed colours). The Camp's reenactment unit attempted to portray a Regimental Headquarters, and as a result most of its reenactors portrayed officers...which did not endear the unit to the other reenacting units at the event. Needless to say, the Camp disbanded the unit shortly thereafter, and Camp members took part in later reenactments in the role of ordinary privates.

CARTWRIGHT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 110TH ANNIVERSARY
CARTWRIGHT SCHOOL, PHOENIX, ARIZONA, MARCH 1994
The Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 was invited to participate in the 110th Anniversary Celebration for Cartwright Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona. The Camp set up a display highlighting Arizona's Confederate history and the contributions made by Confederate veterans to Arizona. The display was a great success, and was very popular. The school later sent a very nice letter to the Camp in thanks for the Camp's contribution to the celebration.
THE CAMP DISPLAY
A good picture showing the Camp's display at the event. Among the items displayed were various Confederate flags, a scale model Napoleon 12-pounder (kindly contributed by Lt. Commander Ed Porter), a display of United Confederate Veterans reunion medals (kindly contributed by Camp Treasurer John Leonard), photos of local reenactment events and our annual Confederate Memorial Day ceremonies, copies of the CONFEDERATE VETERAN magazine, and a display card explaining some of Arizona's Confederate history.
