PHOENIX CIVIC PLAZA, AUGUST 1992

The Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 manned a recruitment and information booth at the Federation of Genealogical Societies Annual Convention, which was held at the Phoenix Civic Plaza in August, 1992.  The booth was shared with the Pioneers' Cemetery Association, an organization which has been very supportive of S.C.V. activities in Arizona over the years.

CAMP PICNIC, WHITE TANK STATE PARK, OCTOBER 1992

In October 1992 the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp decided to hold its Camp picnic closer to home, and went to White Tank State Park, in the White Tank Mountains west of Phoenix, Arizona.  Five S.C.V. members attended, and with attending family members, the total attending was only about 15.  But we all enjoyed the beautiful scenery and beautiful weather, and had good company and good food, which is what a picnic is all about!

A brief meeting of the Camp was held at the 1992 Camp picnic.  Attending were, left to right...Compatriot Harmon Perkins, Camp Treasurer John Leonard, Camp Adjutant Byron Houseknecht, Camp Commander Robert Perkins, and Compatriot John Adams.

ARIZONA STATEHOOD DAYS, FEBRUARY 1993

PIONEER ARIZONA LIVING HISTORY MUSEUM, NEW RIVER, ARIZONA

In February 1993 the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 attended its first reenactment at Pioneer Arizona Living History Museum, located off Interstate Highway 17 north of Phoenix, Arizona.  The event celebrated Arizona Statehood Day, 14 February 1912, which happens to have been 50 years to the day after the creation of the Confederate Territory of Arizona on 14 February 1862.  The Camp had a recruitment and information table at the event.

A COLD, WET WEEKEND

The weekend chosen for the Arizona Statehood Days celebration was cold and wet, and there was a very low turnout by tourists that year.  Nevertheless, Camp 1525 had several diehard members attending and manning its table at the event.  Pictured from left to right...Camp Commander Robert Perkins, Compatriot Tony Eppler, an unidentified reenactor (not a member of the Camp), and Colour Sergeant Robert Oxford.

PICACHO REENACTMENT, MARCH 1993

PICACHO PEAK STATE PARK, PICACHO, ARIZONA

In March 1993, for the first time ever, the Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 had a recruitment/information table at the annual Civil War in the Southwest Weekend hosted by Picacho Peak State Park, Picacho, Arizona.  The park is located on the site of the westernmost battle of the War Between the States (Battle of Picacho Pass, 15 April 1862) and includes reenactments of that battle, plus the battles of Valverde (February 1862) and Glorieta Pass (March 1862), which were fought in what is now New Mexico.   Camp 1525 distributed historical literature about the war as it transpired in Arizona, as well as information about the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
